Plans, directs and co-ordinates filming to control the quality and style of photography in films or videos.

• Determines lighting, film, shutter angles, filter factors, camera distance, depth of field and focus, angles of view and other variables to achieve desired mood and effect; views film and video tape to evaluate and select scenes and determine which scenes need to be re-shot.

• Works indoors in television and film studios and editing suites. May work outdoors at a variety of scene locations.
• Works in adequately heated and ventilated work spaces when indoors. May be required to work in all weathers when outdoor depending on scene requirements. Outdoor scenes may also involve dangerous terrain.

• Sedentary to heavy physical demand levels.
• Likely to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time when writing and/or studying scripts, setting up scenes, filming and editing film.
• Stretching up and reaching across is not a significant feature of the job.
• Bending is not a significant feature of the job.
• Squatting, crouching and kneeling is not a significant feature of the job.
• Twisting of the body or neck is not a significant feature of the job.
• Contact with skin irritants or water is not a significant feature of the job.
• Lifting, carrying and holding requirements are likely to be required to a medium to heavy physical demand level.
• Occasional repetitive hand and finger movements are required when using pens, telephones, microphones and when using a keyboard and mouse and filming equipment.
• Driving may be necessary to access a variety of locations if not solely based in a studio.
• Use of hand-held objects and equipment will be frequent and may include recording instruments, clipboards, writing implements and microphones.
• Mental skills necessary include creative, communication, research, planning and decision-making.

• A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.

• There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.
