Determines and oversees implementation of artistic policies for a performing arts organisation such as a theatre company, dance company, music ensemble, festival or venue.

• Manages artistic and media productions to meet quality, cost and timing specifications; formulates and develops organisations' artistic policies and selects and plans organisations' artistic programs; hiring and managing artistic staff.

• Works indoors in music, film or radio studios or in performance venues such as theatres or concert halls. May work outdoors at open air theatres or outdoor stages.
• May work in all weather conditions but typically works in adequately heated and ventilated work spaces when indoors.

• Sedentary physical demand levels.
• Likely to stand, sit and walk about when directing and/or observing rehearsals, performances or the setting up of artistic displays. May sit for prolonged periods in offices.
• Stretching up and reaching across is not a significant requirement of the job.
• Bending is not a significant requirement of the job.
• Squatting, crouching and kneeling is not a significant requirement of the job.
• Twisting of the body or neck is not a significant requirement of the job.
• Contact with skin irritants or water is not a significant requirement of the job.

• Occasional repetitive hand and finger movements are required when using hand-held objects/equipment including pens, telephones and calculators and using a keyboard and mouse.
• Driving may be necessary but is not a significant feature of the job.
• Use of hand-held objects and equipment will be frequent and may includescripts, clipboards, writing instrument and microphones.
• Mental skills necessary include creative, communication, research, planning and decision-making skills.

• A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.
