Visual arts and crafts professionals not elsewhere classified. Occupations in this group include: leadlighter, multimedia artist, quilter and textile artist.

Conceives and develops ideas, designs and styles for artistic works; arranges objects, positions models, and selects landscapes and other visual forms according to chosen subject matter; selects artistic media, method and materials; applies media to surfaces using appropriate techniques.

• Generally works indoors in art studios.
• May work outdoors if the weather and media allows.
• Usually works in adequately heated and ventilated work spaces.Some art materials contain harmful substances, vapours and chemicals and appropriate personal safety equipment should be utilised as required, for example dust masks.

• Sedentary to heavy physical demand levels depending on the nature and size of the work being undertaken.
• May sit or stand. Occasionally walks about the studio or work area to gather tools and materials.
• Stretching up and reaching across may be required. Bending over may be required when working over benches, lifting raw materials or finished products.
• Squatting, crouching and kneeling may be required.
• Twisting of the body or neck may be required occasionally.
• Contact with skin irritants or water is likely when working in an artistic medium and could include lead, chemicals, paints, glues, resins and dyes.
• Lifting, carrying and holding is likely to be required occasionally to facilitate the collecting of equipment, raw materials and finished art works.
• Repetitive movements of the hands and arms are likely to be required occasionally to frequently.
• Driving is not a significant feature of the job but may be required to facilitate the collection of resources and the delivery of finished works.
• Use of hand-held objects and equipment will be frequent and may include sketching, drawing and painting equipment, cameras, carving tools, turning and shaping tools, metal and/or woodworking equipment.
• Mental skills include artistic and creative skills, problem-solving and organisation.

• A relevant NZQF Diploma (ANZSCO Skill Level 2). At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above. In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification
