• Studies and compares repertoires, instruments and musical scores; researches the origins of music and its instruments; gathers information in relation to music and creates written reports.

• Works indoors in museums, musical research facilities and universities.

• Works in adequately heated and ventilated work spaces when indoors.

• Light physical demand levels.

• May sit frequently when carrying out research and writing reports. Occasionally walks about the work area to gather research material and equipment.

• Stretching up and reaching across is not a significant component of the job.

• Use of hand-held objects and equipment will be frequent and may include musical instruments, sound/recording equipment, music scores, writing materials and computers.

• Mental skills necessary include creative, planning and performance/expressive skills.

• A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.
