Organises and controls the operations of a bed and breakfast to provide a short term, highly personalised accommodation and leisure service for guests including breakfast. Ensures guests' needs, wants and comfort are satisfied during their stay.

• Oversees reservation, reception and housekeeping activities; plans, directs and coordinates the organisation, itﾒs administration and the operation of the establishment; oversees accounting and purchasing activities; ensures compliance with occupational health and safety regulations; may provide guests with local tourism information, and arrange tours and transportation; keeps appropriate records; exercises public relations and marketing responsibilities; assesses and reviews customer satisfaction and handles guest complaints.

• Works indoors in offices, kitchens and other rooms making up the bed and breakfast facility.
• May occasionally work outdoors if the role is a sole charge position and garden upkeep is part of the duties.
• Indoor work areas are adequately heated, ventilated and clean.

• Light to medium physical demand work with frequent sitting in offices.
• Stands and walks frequently around the facility.
• Lifting, carrying or pulling in the sedentary to medium range is likely in some roles when providing breakfast or assisting guests with their luggage.
• Bending, squatting or crouching and stretching, twisting, climbing is likely to be required when there is a ﾑhands-onﾒ component to the work.
• Occasional to frequent repetitive hand and finger movements are required when using hand-held objects/equipment including pens, calculators, telephones, keyboard and mouse.
• Driving is not typically a significant component of the job.
• Mental skills necessary include a high level of cognitive functioning with communication, interpersonal, administration, organisational, problem solving and decision-making capabilities.

• A relevant NZQF Diploma or at least three years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 2). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required. Registration or licensing may be required. If the establishment sells alcohol, the manager must be at least 20 years old and hold a General Managers Certificate and a Licence Controller Qualification (LCQ).
