Plans, organises, directs, controls and co-ordinates the operations of a research or production laboratory.

• Identifies and develops objectives, strategies and plans to achieve research aims and maximise efficient use of an organisationﾒs resources, including identifying potential improvements to research processes, market value of research and work flows; identifies formal standards and regulatory codes appropriate to an organisationﾒs needs and assists with the documentation of processes and operating procedures; implements statistical methodologies and quality tools to monitor and control quality and record research progress; directs and monitors staff and production levels.

• Typically works indoors in offices, meeting rooms or laboratories within public and private research and hospital facilities.
• Works in adequately heated, ventilated and clean, well maintained offices.

• Sedentary work with frequent sitting in offices at a desk or in labs.
• Stands and walks frequently in office and operational areas.
• Lifting, carrying or pulling is not a significant component of this job.
• Bending, squatting or crouching is unlikely to be required.
• Stretching, twisting, climbing is unlikely to be required.
• Occasional to frequent repetitive hand and finger movements are required when using hand-held objects/equipment including pens, calculators, telephones, a keyboard and mouse or when operating lab equipment.
• Driving is not typically a significant component of the job.
• Mental skills necessary include a high level of cognitive functioning with communication, interpersonal, administration, research, analytical, planning, organisational, problem solving, critical thinking and decision-making capabilities.

• A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.

• There are opportunities for flexibility of movement.
