Plans, organises, directs, controls and co-ordinates the supply, storage and distribution of goods produced by an organisation.

• Determines, implements and monitors purchasing, storage and distribution strategies, policies and plans; prepares and implements plans to maintain required stock levels at minimum cost; may negotiate contracts with suppliers to meet quality, cost and delivery requirements; monitor and review storage and inventory systems to meet supply requirements and control stock levels; operates recording systems to track all movements of supplies and finished goods, and ensure re-ordering and re-stocking at optimal times; liaise with other departments and customers concerning requirements for outward goods and associated forwarding transportation; oversees the recording of purchase, storage and distribution transactions; directs staff activities and monitors their performance.

• Typically works indoors in an office and/or stores area.
• Occasionally may work outdoors depending on the type of stock being managed.
• Frequently in adequately heated, ventilated and clean, well maintained offices.

• This is sedentary work with a requirement for frequent sitting in offices.
• May stand and walk occasionally to get from site to site.
• Lifting, carrying or pulling is not a significant component of the job.
• Bending, squatting or crouching and stretching, twisting, climbing is not a significant component of the job.
• Occasional to frequent repetitive hand and finger movements are required when using hand-held objects/equipment including pens, calculators, keyboard and mouse.
• Occasionally travels by car to meet with suppliers and other staff.
• Driving occurs occasionally but is not typically a significant component of the job.
• Mental skills necessary include a high level of cognitive functioning with communication, interpersonal, administrative, organisational, logistics knowledge, planning, problem solving and decision-making capabilities.

• A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.
