Plans, organises, directs, controls and co-ordinates the day-to-day operations of one or more harvesting crews.

• Hire, manage and train harvesting forestry workers, tell the harvesting crews where they will be working and ensure they work safely, ensure work is of a high standard, fill out reports and deal with any paperwork, co-ordinate implementation of OSH requirements; directs staff activities and monitor their performance.

• Frequently works outdoors on forestry operations.
• Internal work spaces will usually be well heated, ventilated and clean.On-site locations however are likely to be dirty, dusty and noisy.
• Employees may work in all weathers, conditions can potentially be hazardous.

• The work has a heavy to very heavy physical demand level with occasional sitting in offices or in meetings.
• Stands and walks frequently on-site, walking may involve negotiating difficult/uneven terrain.
• Lifting, carrying or pulling is likely to be frequent.
• Bending, squatting or crouching is likely to be frequent.
• Repetitive hand and arm movements required when using tools for de-limbing and planting.
• There is frequent travel to forestry sites usually using 4WD or utility vehicles.
• There is frequent driving of 4WD or utility vehicles in order to carry out forest site inspections, monitor operational activities and co-ordinate emergency situations.
• Mental skills necessary include first aid, basic accounting, people management, communication and organisational skills.

• A NZ Register Level 4 Certificate. At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for formal qualifications. In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 3).

• There are opportunities for flexibility of movement.
