Plans, organises, directs, controls and co-ordinates the operations of a manufacturing establishment.

• Identifies business opportunities, devises new manufacturing processes and determines products to be manufactured; develops business plans and implementing operational, marketing, human resource and pricing procedures; researches and implements regulatory and statutory requirements affecting manufacturing operations and the environment; directs the activities of production, warehouse, distribution and other operating units; maintains quality control systems for manufacturing, waste disposal, delivery and other procedures; coordinates orders for raw materials, supplies and equipment, and arranges packaging, delivery and wholesaling of products; oversees the coordination of after-sales service; oversees the provision of quotes for the manufacture of specialised goods and arranging contracts with customers; may devise and oversee the implementation of production run schedules.

• Frequently works indoors in an office or factory environment. Work spaces will usually be heated, ventilated, clean and well maintained.
• Occasionally may work outdoors in relation to moving between buildings or travelling to suppliers or stores.

• This is typically sedentary work involving frequent sitting in offices or at meetings.
• Employees stand and walk occasionally from office to office or to manufacturing areas.
• Lifting, carrying or pulling is not a significant component of the job.
• Bending, squatting or crouching and stretching, twisting, climbing is not a significant requirement of the job.
• Occasional to frequent repetitive hand and finger movements are required when using hand-held objects/equipment including pens, calculators, a keyboard and mouse.
• Driving is not typically a significant component of the job.
• Mental skills necessary include a high level of cognitive functioning with communication, interpersonal, administrative, organisational, purchasing knowledge, planning, problem solving and decision-making capabilities.

• A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.
