Plans, organises, directs, controls and co-ordinates the engineering and technical operations of an organisation.

• Determines, implements and monitors engineering strategies, policies and plans; interprets plans, drawings and specifications, and provides advice on engineering methods and procedures to achieve construction and production requirements; establishes project schedules and budgets; ensures conformity with specifications and plans, and with laws, regulations and safety standards; ensures engineering standards of quality, cost, safety, timeliness and performance are observed; oversees maintenance requirements to optimise efficiency; liaise with marketing, research and manufacturing managers regarding engineering aspects of new construction and product design; may contribute to research and development projects.

• Frequently works indoors in offices and meeting rooms or temporary on-site offices.
• There is occasional to frequent work outdoors visiting on-site operations.
• Frequent to constant work in adequately heated, ventilated and clean, well maintained office workspacesthat may vary in quality depending on the nature and scale of the organisation.
• May be needed to work occasionally on-site in all weathers and potentially hazardous situations.

• The work is frequently sedentary with frequent to constant sitting in offices or in meetings.
• Stands and walks frequently in office and on engineering sites.
• Lifting, carrying or pulling is not a significant feature of this job.
• Bending, squatting or crouching, stretching, twisting, climbing is unlikely to be required for office based roles however it may be occasionally required when assessing worksites in order to monitor or assess problems or progress.
• There is occasional to frequent repetitive hand and finger movements required when using hand-held objects/equipment including pens, calculators and using a keyboard, mouse and customised software. The job may include frequent use of telecommunications technology to facilitate operational activities
• Employees occasionally to frequently travel to sites.
• Employees are required to undertake occasional to frequent driving to inspect worksites.
• Mental skills necessary include a high level of cognitive functioning with communication, interpersonal, organisational, problem solving, drawing/design, technical/computational, critical thinking and decision-making capabilities.

• A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.
