Plans, organises, controls, co-ordinates and performs farming operations to breed and raise a variety of livestock.

• Breeds and raises animals for the production of meat, milk, and skins and a variety of other products; maintains the health and condition of livestock; provides pastures and fodder to maintain appropriate nutritional levels; moves livestock to optimise feeding opportunities; conducts farming operations such as mustering, drenching, shearing and milking livestock, sterilising machines, and collecting, grading and packaging produce; directs and oversees general farming activities such as maintaining pens, sheds and cages, fertilising, controlling pests and weeds, and growing fodder; maintains fences, equipment and water supply systems; organises the sale, purchase and transportation of livestock and produce; evaluates records of farming activities, monitoring market activity and planning production; manages business capital including budgeting, taxation, debt and loan management; may select, train and supervise staff and contractors.

• Light to very heavy work with frequent standing and walking required. In the office this is sedentary work with frequent sitting.
• There is an occasional to frequent requirement for lifting, carrying or pulling up to a very heavy physical demand level.
• Bending, squatting or crouching and stretching, twisting, climbing is likely to be required on a regular basis when engaged in the physical tasks of farming.
• There is occasional to frequent repetitive hand and finger movements required when using a wide range of hand tools associated with farm work (e.g. milking, drenching, shearing and fencing equipment). There is also occasional to frequent repetitive hand and finger movements required when using hand-held objects/equipment in the office including pens, calculators and using a keyboard and mouse.
• Driving is likely to be required occasionally to frequently.
• Mental skills necessary include communication, interpersonal, organisational, problem solving, critical thinking and decision-making capabilities.

• A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some cases particular experience and/or on-job training may be required.

• There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.
