Plans, organises, controls, co-ordinates and performs farming operations to breed and raise dairy cattle for milk, meat and breeding stock.

• Breeds and raises livestock for the production of milk; maintains the health and condition of livestock; provides pastures and fodder to maintain appropriate nutritional levels; moves livestock to optimise feeding opportunities; conducts farming operations such as milking and drenching livestock, sterilising machines, and collecting, grading and packaging produce; oversees general farming activities such as maintaining pens, sheds and cages, fertilising, controlling pests and weeds, and growing fodder; maintains fences, equipment and water supply systems; organises the sale, purchase and transportation of livestock and produce; evaluates records of farming activities, monitoring market activity and planning production; manages business capital including budgeting, taxation, debt and loan management; may select, train and supervise staff and contractors.

• Frequently works outdoors in the farm environment performing and supervising farming tasks. Frequently works in a milking shed and yard environment. Occasionally works indoors in offices to plan and coordinate tasks and projects.
• Office work areas will frequently be heated, ventilated, clean and well maintained. Outside work will be in all weathers and is likely to often be in a dirty, smelly or rugged environment.

• On the farm employees are required to perform light to very heavy work with frequent standing and walking required. In the office this is sedentary work with frequent sitting. There is an occasional to frequent requirement for lifting, carrying or pulling up to a very heavy physical demand level.
• Bending, squatting or crouching and stretching, twisting, climbing is likely to be required on a regular basis when engaged in the physical tasks of farming.
• There is occasional to frequent repetitive hand and finger movements required when using a wide range of hand tools associated with farm work (e.g. milking machines, drenching guns, hammers etc). Also occasional to frequent repetitive hand and finger movements is required when using hand-held objects/equipment in the office including pens, calculators and using a keyboard, mouse and customised design software.
• Driving is likely to be required occasionally to frequently.
• Mental skills needed is high cognitive functioning, communication, interpersonal, organisational, problem solving, critical thinking and decision-making.

• A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.

• There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.
