Plans, organises, controls, co-ordinates and performs farming operations to breed and raise fish and other aquatic stock.

• Co-ordinates the operation of hatcheries to produce fish fry, seed oysters, crayfish, marron and prawns accounting for environmental and market factors; monitors the environment to maintain optimal growing conditions; identifies and controls environmental toxins and diseases; monitors stock growth rates to determine when to harvest; transports fish, crayfish, marron, prawns and sticks of seed oysters to new tanks, ponds, cages and floating net pens; directs and oversees the harvesting, grading and packaging of fish, oysters and other aquatic stock; organises the sale, purchase and transportation of fish stock; maintains and evaluates records of farming activities, monitoring market activity and planning production; manages business capital including budgeting, taxation, debt and loan management; may select, train and supervise staff and contractors.

• Frequently works outdoors in the farm performing and supervising farming tasks on-site but also occasionally works indoors in offices to plan and co-ordinate tasks and projects.
• Office work areas will be heated, ventilated, clean and well maintained. Outside work will be in all weathers and will be in a dirty or rugged environment. Exposure to sea water can be significant.

• On the farm employees are required to perform light to very heavy work with frequent standing and walking and possibly swimming required. In the office this is sedentary work with frequent sitting.
• Occasional to frequent requirement for lifting, carrying or pulling up to a very heavy physical demand level.
• Bending, squatting or crouching and stretching, twisting, climbing likely to be required on a regular basis when engaged in the physical tasks of farming.
• Occasional to frequent repetitive hand and finger movements required when using a wide range of hand tools associated with marine farm work (e.g. knives and general hand tools). Also, occasional to frequent repetitive hand and finger movements required when using hand-held objects/equipment in the office including pens, calculators and using a keyboard, mouse and customised design software.
• Driving of boatsis likely to be required occasionally to frequently.
• Mental activities necessary include a high level of cognitive functioning with communication, interpersonal, organisational, problem solving, critical thinking and decision-making capabilities.

• A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). Experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.

• There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.
